NOTE: This pattern is rated as intermediate level as accurate scant 1/4" seams are needed to achieve correct block size. Each block contains 49 pieces.
Supplies:
NOTE: Fabric for borders include yardage to cut your borders lengthwise instead of by the width of the fabric. Therefore, you may have leftover fabric if using my fabric requirements OR you may opt to cut your borders widthwise and use less fabric.
Cutting: You will be cutting a lot of shapes and I r4ecommend you bag your pieces as indicated.
Floral - 2 each 4.5" x 70.5"; bag L 2 each 4.5" x 65.5"; bag L 4 strips 3-7/8"; subcut into 32 each 3-7/8" squares; cut squares once diagonally; bag A
Gold - 2 each 1.5" x 65.5"; bag L 2 each 1.5" x 53.5"; bag L 2 strips 12.5"; subcut into 31 each 12.5" x 1.5"; bag K 4 strips 2.5" by width of fabric; subcut into 64 each 2.5" squares; bag B
Dark Blue - 2 each 2.5" x 66.5"; bag L 2 each 2.5" x 57.5"; bag L 4 strips 3-7/8"; subcut into 32 each 3-7/8" squares; cut squares once diagonally; bag C 4 strips 2"; subcut into 80 each 2" squares; bag D 3 strips 2-7/8"; subcut into 32 each 2-7/8" squares; cut squares once diagonally; bag E 4 strips 1.5"; subcut into 96 each 1.5" squares; 80 of these bag F and remaining 12 bag K 1 strip 2.5"; subcut into 16 each 2.5" squares; bag G
Background - 4 strips 7.25"; subcut into 20 each 7.25" squares; cut squares twice diagonally; bag H 4 strips 3-3/8"; subcut into 40 each 3-3/8" squares; cut squares twice diagonally; bag I 3 strips 2.25"; subcut into 40 each 2.25" squares; cut squares twice diagonally; bag J
BLOCK CONSTRUCTION
Flying Geese Units: Using quarter-square triangles from bag H and half-square triangles from Bag A, make 80 flying geese units. Measures 3.5" x 6.5"
Large Corner Units: Using squares from bag D, triangles from bag I, and triangles from bag C, make 80 corner units. Tip: Add one small background triangles to left side of squares and press seams. Add other triangles to the top of the units and press seams. Add remaining half-square triangles from dark blue and press seams. Measures 3.5" square
Small Corner Units: Using squares from bag F, triangles from bag J, and triangles from bag E, make 80 corner units. (See TIP under "Large Corner Units".) Measures 2.5" square
Block Centers: Using Small Corner Units, squares from bag B and bag G, make 20 centers. Measures 6.5" square
Block Construction: Layout your pieces according to diagram and make 20 blocks. Measures 12.5" square
Row Construction: Using 15 pieces from bag K and 20 blocks, construct 5 rows according to diagram. Measures 12.5" x 51.5"
Sashing Row Construction: Using remaining 16 sashing pieces and 12 squares from bag K, make 4 rows according to diagram. Measures 1.5" x 51.5"
Piecing the Quilt Top: Please refer to the full-size photo of the quilt to construct the remainder of the quilt.
Sew the Rows alternately with the Sashing Rows. Using gold strips from bag L, sew 1.5" x 65.5" strips to each side and 1.5" x 53.5" strips to top and bottom. Using blue strips from bag L, sew 2.5" x 66.5" strips to each side and 1.5" x 57.5" strips to top and bottom. Using floral strips from bag L, sew 4.5" x 70.5" strips to each side and 4.5" x 65.5" strips to top and bottom.
