Fiesta Fireworks -
June 2002 Guild Challenge; any paper-pieced quilt, no other requirements. I
have always wanted to tackle the New York beauty block and this was my
incentive. In addition, this was my first time working with batik fabrics.
The pattern was from an Australian Patchwork and Quilting magazine. This
quilt won 2nd place in the machine quilting category and 3rd place in
paper-piecing category. This was the first time I won awards for my
craftsmanship. I was too excited. 2002 |

Riding The Waves - A woman needs a man like a fish needs a bicycle...or

June 2003 Guild Challenge; make a quilt based on a quote and use at least
three different types of embellishments. Since I don't use a lot of
quotes throughout my day, I thought this quilt would be a real challenge.
However, after brainstorming at work, someone came up with this quote and
I got busy.
I used 10 different embellishments. They are: personally hand dyed
fabric, buttons, beads, 3-d appliqué, trapunto, chenille yarn, couching,
hand embroidery, machine embroidery, and shells. Can you find them all?
I won four ribbons: 1st place Viewers' Choice; 1st place Best
Interpretation of Theme; 3rd place Best use of Embellishments; 3rd place
Best Workmanship.

The So Sew Busy Quilt Guild wanted a way to commemorate our
friendship. We had a friendship basket challenge swap. The
members made baskets that were first voted on in a challenge and then
swapped. Some made the same basket while others made all of their baskets
different.
Not only did we have fun, be we have beautiful blocks to make into quilts
that will remind us that our friends are near and dear. |

Log Cabin Swirl
-
This quilt actually was made to be in two challenges. Instead of making
two quilts, one for each challenge, I decided to get creative and combine
the two efforts, especially since I have over 76 UFOs that must get
completed.
The first challenge is for the SSBGQ challenge due May 28, 2004. The
requirements were for a completed quilt made from using two or more sizes
of the same block. This quilt won 1st place.
The second challenge was for the Flower Valley Quilt Guild June 2004
challenge - "Cheaper by the Dozen." The quilt has twelve blocks and uses
twelve different marble fabrics. This quilt won Best of Show, 1st place
for machine quilting, and honorable mention for best interpretation of
theme.
Pattern retrieved online from
Quick
Quilts
but was also published in their January 2004 magazine issue.
