Magic Trip Around the World Underground Railroad Quilt Code Just Strings Series:
All Together Now Christmas Cookies with Janiacs Back of Christmas Cookies with Janiacs
I started this Split 4-Patch quilt for my brother in November 2008, wanting to have it done by May this year. That of course didn't happen. However, while waiting, I found the perfect stripe fabric for the 1st border and binding. I cut about 40 inches of fabric on the bias to make both the border and binding, cutting 2.5" strips. It was tedious but I like the "wave" effect created by this fabric. This one fits a full-size bed but was made as extra cover, not the main bedspread. Completed 7/6/2009 The big drum roll goes to the EXPLODING STAR! It took me five days of quilting on my sewing machine to get it done. The quilting process was pure torture and many times I had mental images of destroying the quilt (but not in actuality.) This one has truly been a labor of love. I started this quilt September 24, 2005. It took me about six months to piece as I used it as my chain on/off project. I've taught the class twice before completing the quilt. I just decided that I wasn't going to teach it again as a quilt top only. Sometimes impromptu, crazy goals is what it takes to get me moving. Completed 6/7/2009 70" square I just finished sewing binding on my Scrappy Ocean Waves quilt. I started this quilt in the fall of 2008. I free-motion quilted feathers every here and there. Of course I couldn't take the time to mark them. Not perfect, but not bad for my first time, especially since I did not follow the process I should have by marking first. This is just a piece for my scrap lecture; doesn't have to be perfect. By the way, the blue is a quilt on wall that I pinned the ocean waves to so that I could take a photo - it's not part of this quilt. October 2007 - June 23, 2009 36" square It took a while but I got the binding added (all by machine) so this one is officially off my UFO list. I will probably give it as a wedding gift to my step-daughter next year...unless some other wonderful idea pops in my head. Sorry about photo but it just too darn large to photograph in my home. 1/12/2007 to 5/28/2009 I completed the Magic Trip Around the World quilt. It's called "magic" because it's made with 9-patches instead of long strip sets. February 23, 2009 to March 23, 2009 63x83 I attended a trapunto class and made this Trapunto Rose quilt which is 8.5" square. I like classes where you complete almost the entire project. I had to wait to add binding as I wet the quilt to get the blue marks off while in class. March 28-29, 2009 What a great time to finish an underground railroad quilt. 5/9/2008 to 2/19/2009 58x62 What better way to keep track of the codes meanings than to add them to the back. I also added other historical data regarding slavery/de-regulation of slavery. I made this top in April 2007, basted it and quilted a block or two. Then it sat until I got so disgusted that it was time to get it done. 2/15/2009 63x79.5 I quilt I started in a class that got modified so much that it looks nothing like the class quilt. March 2008 to February 11, 2009 52.5 x 72.5 Had pattern pulled for months. Made one block in January as February was just around the corner. It still sat for 4 weeks before I made the other blocks, deciding a wall handing was better than a bed quilt anyway. January 2009 to February 14, 2009 43.5 square This photo just doesn't give this quilt justice. Should have left the resolution larger. I started this quilt in November 2006 when I did not win the optional blocks at the guild meeting. I already had the book so I made the quilt. February 3, 2009 96.5 square Displayed at my monthly embroidery club meeting, I went home and tried it out. Need to play with the embroidery placement a bit though. February 12, 2009 Retreat project. Bag is great for gathering up large quantity of items in a compact space. February 20, 2009 I swapped blocks with online Dear Jane group members in November 2008. I was so pleasantly surprised at the workmanship of the blocks returned that I did not want this to become another UFO. See next photo for label on back. 47 x 55.5 The following online members of the Dear Jane group made the blocks in the quilt.
